PACKAGING MATERIALS
Additional materials
Trays, backing boards and interleaving films serve different purposes: forming a packaging base, supporting the product or separating slices after cutting. Material and format are selected for the product, equipment and conditions of use. Each page describes the application and available properties.

Trays
Trays for meat, vegetables, salads, prepared foods and convenience products. Shape and material are selected to suit the packaging process.
Applications and specifications
Backing boards
A base for presenting and supporting the product. Format and compatibility are selected for your packaging technology.
Applications and specifications
Interleaving films
Materials for separating product slices. Format and properties are selected for the slicing and stacking process.
Applications and specificationsSupporting materials are part of the packaging system
Tray and lidding film
Tray sealing requires compatibility between the tray material, lidding film and machine mould. Consider geometry, depth and heat-treatment conditions.
Backing boards and interleaving films
A backing board supports the packed product; interleaving film separates slices. Board stiffness and format matter, while interleaving film must suit the slicing and stacking process.
What to include in your enquiry
Specify the product, required size and packaging type. For an automatic line, include the machine model and material operating parameters. State any heating or freezing requirements separately.
Selection questions
Is every tray suitable for oven use?
No. Conditions of use depend on the specific tray material. Suitability for ovens, microwaves and freezing must be checked separately.
How does a backing board differ from interleaving film?
A backing board forms a base for the product in its pack. Interleaving film is a thin separating layer between slices that helps prevent sticking.
